Just returned from the TKGA knitting conference in Manchester,NH. It was a great time being surrounded by knitters and crocheters for 4 days. I took 5 classes and learned many new things to pass on to customers. The market was still showing shawls, especially lace. I am working on many new samples for the store. New fall yarns will arrive in late August so stop by and browse.

Sunday,May 1,2010 Diane,Marlene and i will attend the NENA trade show. This is a chance to see whats new and what to plan for fall yarns. It is always very exciting. Come in next week to ask what's new in the knitting/crochet world. Hopefully there will be a few treasures we can bring home to share right away.

I hope all of you and your stashes made it through all this rain! Luckily my stash is on the second floor! Is anyone doing summer knitting projects? I am working on a pair of cotton socks ( I wear them all year round) and I am blocking a summer shawl made out of Noro Tayio yarn. Diane has a summer wrap on display that makes jeans as well as dresses look great. Come on by and check things out. Please be aware that we are now closed on Sundays until the fall. I don't know about you but I am ready for some nicer weather. As it get nicer many of you begin your outside activities. Don't leave your knitting behind. There are many small projects for spring and summer knitting. Many of you have come into the shop and started your holiday knitting for December 2010. In November you will be happy you did. Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, work to end – 42(46-51-56-61-66) sts. Rep this inc every ¾” 4 times more – 46(50-55-60-65-70) sts. Work even until piece measures 15(15-15½-16-16½-17)” from beg, end on WS.

Next Row (RS): K to first marker, drop marker, k to last marker, decreasing 8(7-7-7-7-7) sts across, drop marker, k to end – 38(43-48-53-58-63) sts. Knit 6 rows, then purl 1 row, end on WS. From here, work all sts in Double Seed St.

Shape Armhole and Neck: Next Row (RS): Bind off 4(4-6-6-8-10) sts, work to end – 34(39-42-47-50-53) sts. Work 1 row even.

Dec Row (RS): K1, k2 tog, work to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 32(37-40-45-48-51) sts. Working decs in this manner, continue to dec 1 st at armhole edge every RS row 6(7-9-10-12-11) times more. AT THE SAME TIME, dec 1 st at neck edge every 4th row 9(10-7-8-5-7) times more, then every 6th row 2(2-4-4-6-5) times. When all decs have been completed, work even if necessary on 15(18-20-23-25-28) sts until armhole measures 7 1/2(8-8-8 1/2-8 1/2-9)”, end on WS. Bind off 5(6-6-7-9-10) sts at armhole edge once, then 5(6-7-8-8-9) sts twice for shoulder.

RIGHT FRONT

Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and placement of pat st. Work side decs at end of RS rows as SSK, k1. Work side incs at end of RS rows as M1k, k1. Bind off for armhole and shoulder on WS rows. Work neck decs at beg of RS rows as k1, k2 tog. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows as k2 tog, k1.

SLEEVES

With smaller straight needles, cast on 54 sts.

Ribbing: Row 1 (RS): K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.

Row 2: P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across. Rep these 2 rows until sleeve measures 3” from beg, end on RS. Change to larger needles and p the next row, decreasing 8 sts across – 46 sts. Work even in St st until sleeve measures 4” from beg, end on WS.

Inc Row (RS): K2, M1k, k to last 2 sts, M1k, k1 – 48 sts. Rep this inc every 2(2-1½-1-1-3/4)” 6(6-8-11-13-16) times more – 60(60-64-70-74-80) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 18” from beg, end on WS.

Shape Cap: Bind off 4(4-6-6-8-10) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 52(52-52-58-58-60) sts.

Dec Row (RS): K1, k2 tog, k to last 3 sts, SSK, k1 – 50(50-50-56-56-58) sts. Rep this dec every RS row 16(16-16-16-16-17) times more, end on WS – 18(18-18-24-24-24) sts. Bind off 4(2-2-2-2-0) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 10(14-14-20-20-24) sts.

FINISHING

Sew shoulder seams.

Left Front/Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at center back neck, pick up and k118(122-122-126-126-130) sts to cast-on edge of left front. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as sleeves for 1”, end on WS. Knit 1 row, purl 1 row. Bind off knitwise. Mark placement of 6 buttons, the first 1” from lower edge, the last at beg of neck and the others evenly spaced between.

Right Front/Neckband: With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at cast-on edge of right front, pick up and k118(122-122-126-126-130) sts to center of back neck. Beg with Row 2, work in ribbing same as sleeves for ½”, end on WS. Make buttonholes on the next row opposite markers as k2 tog, yo. Complete same as left front/neckband. Sew ends of front/neckbands tog at center back neck. Sew in sleeves. Sew side and sleeve seams. Sew on buttons.

Isn't it too hot to knit? I get asked this all summer and my response is NEVER! I would be afraid to see what I would be like if I did't knit a little bit each day. Try small projects made from cotton if you feel its too hot to work with wool. Many women put their babies in cotton all year round because of the softness on tender skin. Check out Itty Bitty Hats for some inspiration! Cotton socks are great because you don't have to hand wash them. New sock books and patterns are out all the time! Come by the air conditioned store,bring your knitting and cool off with us!

60 miles of memories

A BIG thank you to the village Stitchery ,its staff and many customers who supported my daughter and I on the Susan G. Komen breast cancer 3-day walk. Over the weekend of July24-26 we walked 60 miles to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer. It was the most inspirational and grueling thing i have ever done. I thought of so many of you as I walked. I crocheted a hat and put ribbons on it with the initials of all who donated. Please stop by the shop and see it.

Back from Summer vacation

Well summer is offically over for me even though I am still finishing up cotton projects. I think baby garments can be made from cotton all year round!!!

I want to extend a great big THANK YOU to Diane Leeman who filled in at the store all summer. Many of you commented on what an asset she has been to the store. We hope she sticks around this fall.

Thank you also to Marlene And Linda who kept things running smoothly so Nancy and I could enjoy Maine(Rain and all).

Our continued prayers for a full recovery for Sue. I haven't seen her but I hear she is driving now and getting back to a more normal routine.

Store hours are back to the regular schedule. Keep checking the postings regarding being open on Sunday afternoons!!!

New classes begin the week of Sept 15th. Call to sign up!

New yarns coming in any day now. I will write about them as soon as they come in!! I can't wait

SUMMER HOURS

Has it been that long since we signed in to post? Things have been busy at the shop. As you know Sue has been out of work for a while and we all miss her terribly. Everyone one is pitching in to fill her hours so those of you that usually come up to the shop on Thursday, Friday and Saturday may see Nancy , Marlene or Kate. We will help you any way we can.

Just because the summer has hit us quickly don't think we haven't been planning for Fall. Many new yarns are scheduled for September delivery. But you don't have to wait until then to be inspired. New yarns arrive all through the summer.

Please note our summer hours which go into effect on Monday June 23.

Whats New

Just returned from the NENEA needlework show. What can you expect come the fall? More luxurious yarns in simple designs. Cable are still in style. Socks and scarves are still the number one sellers. Nancy and I almost got buried in the Schaefer booth. The colors and fibers were to dye for. Anyone unfamiliar with this company should check out there web site for true inspiration.

Happy Spring to Everyone,

I hope you are getting a chance to come by the shop to see whats new. As the weather gets warmer(yes it will get warmer) some people stop knitting. They can't picture themsleves working on a beautiful wool sweater as the mercury climbs. Give cotton and cotton blend yarns a chance. They make beautiful 3 season garments. Try some of the newer fibers such as soy,bamboo and linen blends. All of our new yarns have great patterns if you need to be inspired.
